fitting temperature sensor

Featured Replies

ive got my new temperature sensor today and going to fit in shortly.

couple of questions

1, what do i do about the coolant thats going to leak out when ive taken the sensor out, just quickly fit the new one to stop the leak?

2, how does the connector come off the top,ive just had a look at cant seem to budge the old on?

thanks in advance

I found it easier to remove the sensor with the wiring connected, quickly push the new one in to stop the coolant loss, fit new C clip, then you can see how the wiring connector unplugs

Oh and don't remove the coolant reservoir cap, this will reduce coolant loss.

Don't worry coolant loss is minimal, just top up with water.

Too remove plug is easy but not obvious if you have not done it before. Get a small flat screwdriver and where there is a protruding part on the plug insert the flat screwdriver and apply small pressure upwards and this will pull out the little lug holding it to the base.

hopefully this pic shows you off another plug showing right side arrow where you put screwdriver and left arrow is the direction to push screwdriver(note on the temp sensor plug is vertical)

And make sure the engine is cold ;)

Also make sure that the old o ring has come out with the sensor! Mine stayed in the aperture, then like a numpty I wondered why I couldn't get the new one into hole!:wall:

cheers guys, went round a mates and parked up in his garage.

we left the engine cool down for 20 minutes while sorting out my faded rear spoiler.

i just pulled out the old one and let the coolant leak and put the new one in.

found it easy as described above about leaving the connector on the old one and take it off when u can see it.

engine managment light is still on and still got a problem with boost but hopefully i can get my mates vag com plugged in and sort it

Did your em light come on phil when your temp sensor starting playing up? Mine came on last night and i the idleing was all over the place would should up to 2krpm then back down, scanned the car and got p1296 fault aswell as the p118 so iam guesing me sensor is well and trully mullered.

Paul, I had the EML light come on for the coolant sensor, so yes they do.

Didn't notice anything wrong with the engine though. Performed just the same as usual.
