Alarm sounder

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm after people opion, I took my 06 Octavia 2.0l tdi estate in for the turbo to be replaced due to a lovely crack in the casing (luckily under warranty from the garage at which I bought the car). When I came to pick the car up the alarm sounder no longer works either the chirp to confirm clouser or if activated. Got the garage to look at this and they told me the battery on the sounder must have given up while the car battery was unplugged during turbo replacement. they went on to say this is wear and tear and not their problem?

Any one else had a 4 yr old alarm sounder give up?

Cheers

Tim

The internal battery is only there as a backup so the alarm keeps sounding if the car battery is disconnected.

Surely once the car battery is reconnected to alarm sounder should draw its power from there.

The "chirp" can be switched on or off via maxidot. Check that it's switched on (i think its called "ATA confirm" in the menu or something similar..) as this setting may have been lost when the battery was disconnected.

Yes that was my thought regards the battery but still no alarm! Yes double checked the ata activation an is selected.

Thank you for your thoughts

First check would be that the alarm is activating correctly - check that the light in the driver's door isn't staying on when you lock the car. If it is then there is a fault with the alarm.

If the alarm is not showing a fault the next check would be to lock the car with a window open and wave your arm inside. Even if the backup battery is faulty this should still sound the alarm.

If you do this as above and no joy the siren itself has packed up . easy to replace jack offside front wheel up,remove the wheel remove the wheel arch lining at the top then look up to the 11 o clock position you will find a black box undo the screws inside is the siren unplug and replace, refit everything back. It sounds daunting but in reality easy to do.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Been and and tried the above. Alarm sets ok and then activates with the hazards flashing but silence all around!!!!

looks like a new sounder then.

I'll get myself down the dealership tomorrow.

Cheers

Seems as if my sounder has given up the ghost as my door led stays on for about 30 secs then goes to flashes. I have checked that the movement sensors work and also the tilt sensor, both trigger alarm but only get flashigh hazards so any chance you could email me the pdf file or point me in the right direction to get it, so that I can get one and change it.

Many thanks.
