Coldstart problems

Featured Replies

Hi. My Skoda has starting problems if it's below -20c. Lambda sensor has been changed few days ago and the car was checked for fault codes. There were something about immobilizer and lambda sensor. Lambda was changed, but the immobilizer never had developed problems, so I thought it was not an issue.

Spark plugs, filters are OK. There is an dodgy crank case ventilation tube wheres air can be sucked in.

So what could be the problem? Immobilizer or that tube? Or something else.

Thanks.

How fast does the starter spin the engine? When it's that cold, my first thoughts are of a dodgy battery or very thick oil.

I'd get the pipe sorted first see if that helps if not then try the battery.

Yes definately get the hose sorted as that will effect it

But also check the coolant temp sensor too

Should be changed to a green one

Well, oil is pretty thick (Agip 10w-40 semi). But that should be not that big problem. My Corolla (Shell Helix HX7 10w-40) starts up pretty OK in even -30c.

Battery is 4 years old (a good quality one) and it should last at least for 7 years on a petrol engine.

As there were no fault codes about coolant sensor, that's probably not the problem. And I don't see it acting strangely.

I mended the rubber hose with duct tape as a temporary fix.

The part that I need is only available trough VW or Skoda dealer and you have to wait till it ships from Sweden.

Part number- 06A103474A Costs around 41 pounds. A bit steep for three rubber hoses.
