1.9D Cat Removal

Featured Replies

The exhaust on my 1.9D pick up is a little tired and could do with either replacing or welding up. A friend has suggested removing the Cat to give a little more power. It is also around the Cat that the front pipe is blowing. I'm considering cutting the cat out and welding in a short section of pipe to cure the leak and let the engine breath a bit more easily. It's a smoky beast at the moment and I'm wondering if the cat could be choked up?

Does anyone know if there are any legal implications (other than informing insurers) that will stop me removing the cat or cause MOT failure etc? I believe it's just optical smoke density for the MOT so a lack of cat shouldn't affect that.

At the moment the front pipe is also very close to the CV boot. I've had to lash it to the anti roll bar (as the joint with the centre section won't move)to stop the CV boot from rubbing on the pipe. Anyone else had this?

Thanks for any advice.

cheers

Pete
