Newbie with some MDI/Bolero questions

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I know it's not the done thing to start one's first post with a question so, a brief intro:

Bought a Yeti 2.0 Tdi 140 Elegance 4x4 at the weekend in Muscovado/Gobi. It was an ex-demo car - We've been looking for a suitable spec car, relatively near us, since last October! So far we both love it - Used to have a Mk 5 Golf R32, and it's almost as fun to drive, and certainly as well built (if not more so!) than that! Swapped the Golf in for a Land Rover Defender 110, which I also love, although it's nice ot have a 'normal' car in the family!

Anyway, our Yeti came with a Pioneer AVIC 3210BT Satnav unit fitted by the dealer from new. It's a bit over-complicated and techy for my wife (and me, to be honest - User interface is nothing on the OEM unit, and I speak as a former UI designer!), and since we both have TomTom on our iPhones, it's a bit redundant.

The dealer supplied the original Bolero unit (with original bezel) as well, and the plan is to refit this, since the phone is better integrated, and I suspect it will do everything (except for Nav) just as well.

My questions are:

  • Our car has a 3.5mm aux in socket in the jumbo box. Is this an MDI connection?
  • If so, could it just be swapped for the correct Ipod one?
  • If not, does the Bolero play audio from an iPhone 4 via Bluetooth?
  • Finally, if we put the original Bolero unit back in, does anyone know the size of the dash bolts/screws that hold the unit in place? Our dealer neglected to supply these!

Cheers,

James

The 3,5mm jack is not an MDI alas.

Once paired and you have pressed play on your iPhone the BT Audio option in the Bolero will be clickable and you will be able to stream music but you still need to control the music from the iPhone.

Have a look at these links:

They might help a lot.

The aux in is just 3.5mm NOT MDI which isn't available in the UK....yet.

iPod will just plug in using 3.5mm jack to jack, like any other device with a 3.5mm plug.

Bolero won't stream BT audio, BUT as you have an elegance, your car is equipped with the BT telephone, and providing it was made after I think May last year, should stream BT audio to the car through the Bolero. (there is a big difference as cars with Bolero but without BT won't audio stream.....)

I expect the unit you have in at the moment is using the same screws, no other way for it to be held in place that I can remember.

Hope this helps.

Four T20 Torx screws = See My link removing (fitting) Bolero Radio in the "Technical Guides" section.

Hope it helps. Tony.......(AKA)

Since the holes are quite small, you might want something that pokes in quite a lot to get to the screw.

The guide is exactly spot on, I have removed mine 3-4 times now using the guide.

Hi and welcome.

Any chance you could post a pic of the unit fitted and possibly displaying / lit up etc?

Many thanks

Mark

Sure - Will take a few photos of the Pioneer unit and post on here before I remove it.

Will be going on the 'Bay, so maybe someone will be interested in it! emoticon-0105-wink.gif
