Any ideas about how to safely disperse of coolant? Both used and new/neat? I've asked our local council recycling centre and they had no idea! Numpties.

On web searches the advice is either to pour it diluted down the loo, not water drains; or take it to the recycling depot and add it to the used oil container.

The local council recycling centre here mix coolant, brake fluid and oil in the same container

I took a bunch of 4-pint milk containers full of various old coolant to Ashford recycling centre a while back and they told me to just chuck them in the regular household waste skip!?

It might be worth asking your local dealer/garage - they might be willing to take it off your hands if it's a reasonably small amount.

officially your not supposed to pour it down the drain, but then what the hell else are you supposed to do with it? at least my drains at home never freeze over :peek:

Update:

I had an email response from the Council. They say I CAN take small amounts to the depots for disposal. They apologised for not having any info on their website.

I shall print out the email and take it to the depot next time I change my coolant. On the plus side the large patch of road below the wife's Fabia wont be freezing for a while (rather a large spillage - OOPS!), nor will our sewer system.

Curse this milder weather!
