What's with all the "R" badges?

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed that R seems to be the badge of fashion at the minute?

In eighties and nineties it was "TURBO" or "INJECTION"

Now it's R, it's everywhere,

Golf R

Scirocco R

Leon R

R-Line

R-design

xj-R

Rs

vRS

VxR

VxR-R

Does the are mean something different to each manufacturer?

As in Rally, Racing...?

Rally, racing...?

R for 'RUBBISH' LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

The 'R' makes the car go faster.

Buy a red one and add stripes and it's the same as a stage 1 :giggle:

Stage 2 involves tilting your seat back really far so you can hardly see, some alloys and a fake tailpipe end from Halfords

I once read somewhere think it was a chav car forum where some kid actually believed that driving around with his rear seats folded down in his moms Corsa would somehow improve the aerodynamic qualities of the said Corsa, or AERODINAMICKS as he called it.

I think Shifty posted that up, it was a guy on a Vauxhall forum who had (from memory) a very tidy corsa 1.2 and then re-badged it with SRi badges because it made 1 or 2 bhp over standard and he made the fatal mistake of telling everyone how he drove everywhere with the rear seats folded down o save weight    and then went on about it was like lying down and crawling over thin ice so that you did not go through it .....

legendary thread, I wish I could find it again. :)

kerching .... the original is down, but the discussion of the original thread on pistonheads as the dudes famous quotes :)

If its a big sub mounted in the boot and fitted facing backwards, then im sure it is.

A sonic turbo boomboom booster, easily worth 50bhp

I remember seeing a TV programme a while back featuring some blokes and there cars. They interviewed one chap who really thought that the 'i' on his car made him more Important, the Idiot.

Neewtons third innit.

Bass goes out back, car goes forward. Fizzix in action.

I blame Pirates, they have infiltrated the automotive industry and it's all part of their mater plan.
