1.6cr Greenline Combi - a few questions

Featured Replies

My new Greenline Combi is currently in the factory being built according to my dealer (ordered last week in Jan) and I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you might be able to help me with.

- it's the elegance spec with the adaptive xeons, I will be taking the car on a trip to the south of france in a couple of week, what do I need to 'change the directions' for french roads?

- what else do I need to bring with me to france?

- what is the normal run in on this engine?

- Am I mad to go with the Rosso Brunello colour? I was drawn towards it at the time of ordering as I am tired of Silver, Black and White cars ... at the moment its a 50-50 split between people I've asked

- Does the Columbus Sat-Nav have european maps as standard? or is it just UK&Ireland?

...i'm sure I'll think of a few more ....

On another note, i've sold my GTI and the buyer is collecting it on Friday, but I just came back from the supermarket and some one in the carpark decide to put a nasty prang in my rear nearside door .. no CCTV or witnesses .. so have a nervous phone call to make in the morning with the buyer to give him the option of cash off or me getting it repaired.

For driving in France you'll need a set of spare bulbs, warning triangle, reflective vest for ALL occupants of the car and optionally, you might also a fire extinguisher.

Rosso Brunello is a love/hate kind of colour. I think the Superb looks quite distinguished in this colour, especially against the chrome side window surround. Personally, I'm in the 'love' camp.

Sorry to hear about your dented Golf. Have you considered a SMART repair company, such as Chipsaway etc?

Incorrect. In Spain you need a spare set of bulbs, but for France you need the reflective vests, and a warning triangle (I think they are bringing in legislation requiring 2 triangles). The fire extinguisher is not mandatory in France (but is in Belgium).

Adaptive headlights: As I don't have my car yet, I don't know how to change the setting for tourist lights, but I know it is an option in the maxidot thingy. I know I saw it in the manual somewhere.

Run-in. That's in the manual too. As you don't have your car yet either I see, all the documentation is available for download here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/121976-official-superb-ii-documentation-now-available-for-download-from-skoda-auto-as/

And the colour... I like the Rosso Brunelo on the sedan, but not on the estate. I have ordered mine in Mocca Brown, which looks very very dark, but when the light catches it, it's lovely.

I think for France you also need a spare pair of glasses (if you wear them for driving) - not sure whether it's mandatory though....

You will also need to carry the following documents in the car at all times:

- V5 registration document

- Insurance document

- MOT cert (if applicable)

- Driving licence (both bits)

In the MFD, using the steering wheel controls, you can set lights to "Holiday mode" - No benders etc needed. It's advisable to carry spare bulbs, but NOT the Xenon bulb. - Vests are needed in the passenger area (not boot) for ALL occupants as is a warning triangle (two if your towing)

Yes, Mad! :D

Yes, Europe

great ... I had a look at the downloaded manual and the 'tourist option' on the lights is a great idea.

As for the hi-vis vest, triangle and spare bulbs ... every since I started driving 11 years ago I have had all three in the boot of every car, just something my father insisted on. When each sibling got their first car they were presented with the bulb-set, vest and triangle by the auld fella before they could go anywhere!

Judging by the Rosso Brunello reaction I should be confident that I won't see too many of them on the road ... :D

Now that the GTI is going on friday, and the Superb is arriving in two weeks I need a lend of a car, in steps the Father-in-Law with his A5, 3.0TDI .. should be nice for the few weeks.

Just make sure, Vest's Must be IN the car, and not in the boot - ie, passengers must exit the vehicle wearing them.

I carry a high-viz bomber jacket in my car during winter; also bought the wife a girly, padded high viz this winter, just incase she has to stand in the cold for a we' while - £30-40 from Arco for a nice one - it may prove to be life saving...
