Anyone got one of these? Alpine CDA-9830R

Featured Replies

If so what do you think? any good?

Haven't got one myself, but I have used/heard it - top notch, well worth getting...

Rob.

Mas,

I've just got one off Ebay - but unfortunately american spec - so no-one wants to fit it for me... no ISO connectors.

Doh

Think I'm gonna send it back and get one from UK somewhere. Very good unit though...

I think i've got one of those - got a link or a pic? If so it's the db's :D

looks like this - was going to get one plus the alpine gizmo box thing so i can plug my ipod into it direct and get on screen display and allsorts for clever functions.

Very nearly!

I just bought the 9831R the other day and I'm well impressed with it so far.

I think most of the functions are the same. It'd be nice to have the one-touch mute that yours has instead of the (pretty poor IMO) choice of different patterns for the display.

TBH I reckon it'd be a fairly simple (if not tedious) job to mate the HU wiring with the car-end of a harness adapter.

It'd save messing about sending it back to the states, but then it's not as easily transferable to another motor.

The wiring is easy, unfortunatley you'll not be able to pick up most radio stations on a US spec tuner :(

They've agreed to give me a refund... I'll see what happens with that one. However, I have decided to buy a UK spec unit... I wanted the Alpine because it is good. I don't see the point in fitting something which isn't what I was looking for - afterall, you know what you want when you upgrade!

Still a pain in the **** though, and the wallet.

I've had a bit more time to play with mine now and there's one or two things that bug me about the 9831, stuff that my old Alpine HU did but the new one doesn't - I'm not sure if the same would be true for the 9830 but it may be worth checking out.

1. The character set for the CD titling does not include numbers - WTF?! Hopefully if I title discs in the changer it will use a more complete set but I've not tried it yet, not being able to use numbers at all would be really irritating, especially when you're restricted to just 8 characters anyway.

2. Unable to select a CD to play from the changer by scanning through the CD titles, which was really useful.

Apart from those, which I guess I can live with, I'm still well happy with it!

:)

I've recently got the 9812RR deck and am pretty happy with. Don't have any experience of the more expensive decks but if this one's anything to go by they should sound sweet. Alpines in general tend to be stronger on their CD playback than radio though, worth bearing in mind.
