PC help - Autoplay not working

Featured Replies

Right, Autoplay doesn't seem to be working on my PC all of a sudden - I've gone into the preferences for my DVD/CD drive and set them to autoplay for all formats of disc, but for some reason it's still not working.

I noticed there's no option for game media, but it seems to have stopped working for all media types. Anyone know how to reset it so that it wrks everytime?

Which version of Windows, Andy?

Andy, what OS are you running?

You could have a look at the registry.

If you've never done this before, I'd recommend making a backup of it first. Load up regedit and then navigate using the explorer-style pane on the left to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

There should be an dword type variable on the right hand side which says Autorun. If you double click on that, a popup box appears asking you to enter value. If it's 0, try changing to 1.

See attached :)

I'm running XP Home SP2. Checked the registry, and the Autorun has a value of 1 already.

Would choosing to remove hardware ten rebooting help? In this way the computer could redetect hte drive and (hopefully) autorun would be reset somehow?
