Warning light woes

Featured Replies

including 2 rear fog lights which I thought weren't supposed to. Do you think this is why I am getting a faulty warning light on my dash as it only pops up when I turn the rear fogs on

Any help would be great otherwise its a trip to the dealers

Thanks

anyone?

Did you buy this car new or used?

Check the wiring at the rear clusters. There may be an extra wire added to allow both fog lights to work and this is causing a warning as the resistance in the circuit is too high. You can test this by removing the left hand fog bulb, if the warning goes thats the problem and solution.

Hope this helps.

Sorry but your original post isn't very clear. :S

Do you mean that the bulb warning light is on, but all lights are working, including two rear fogs?

If so, it could be that a bulb has inadvertently been fitted into the second foglamp? It needs activating via VCDS I think?

Is the maxidot saying what bulb is gone?

Alternatively, hook the car up to VCDS, scan, save and then clear all fault codes. Turn the fogs on again and see what errors come up?

cheers fella. I am sure they were ok before my mate tinkered with some of the settings. I think my best bet is to get over to another mate with vag com and check the settings on there.

They both work, just don't fancy having the warning light on although its never that foggy

Sorry, it was a rushed post. Yep warning light comes on when I activate the rear fogs only. Thought they must have blown, but on checking found both sides to be working. I don't have maxidot so its just a symbol that pops on the dash to say a light is out. Have checked and nothing else is untoward so I have a funny feeling it might have been activated by accident. I tested all the lights when we viewed the car and no error was flagged. I have a mate with a garage and didn't realise he had vag com so will pop over and ask him to do a fault checker for me.

I had the daytime lights all be it front head lights only when handbrake off activated along with the autolock but that was from a VW module so its possible that has caused the issue
