Thinking of a change...

Featured Replies

I've been running my 2.0 TD Elegance for almost 4 years and am at the stage of looking for a replacement. Having considered a Yeti, Mondeo, 3 series, Mazda 6, I've decided that the Octavia actually gives me everything I need and with the current 20% off offer, I am thinking of a 1.8 TSI Elegance with the following options:

1. MFSW with Bluetooth and Maxidot

2. Metallic paint (either silver or Anthracite grey again)

3. Boot net (my Octavia came with this but I see it is now an option)

4. Spare wheel

Having done the sums based on 3 years / 60K miles it seems that it will cost about the same as the equivalent 2.0CR model.

For those having changed from pre-facelift to facelift Octavias, are there other items previously "standard" with Elegance trim that are now options?

Also, I read a post at the end of last year saying that the Octavias are being made with better sound proofing (road noise and resonance at motorway speeds are about the only issues I have with my car). Can recent purchasers confirm this is indeed the case?

Reading previous posts, it seems that 1.8 TSI owners are delighted with their engine choice, has anyone out there been disappointed, and if so why? I would be especially interested with those who have moved from the 2.0TD Octavia as I am considering doing.

Final question.... are DRL's only standard on the VRS, or on the Elegance as well, replacing the front fog lamps?

Many thanks

Glen

I'm just very happy with my car, no complaints so far.

I'm getting used to the difference in economy between diesel & petrol now, although I do tend to use SUL instead of ordinary UL petrol, it does seem to give better economy with it, I looked today & it'd has done 148, 8 on a ¼ tank, which I don't think is that bad for a DSG boxed car, but not as good as the diesel that preceded it. Still you can't have everything I guess.

My car's got the MFSW & Maxidot, its also got BT retrofitted by Ben (Shark_90) which is a real boon, I didn't order a spare wheel with it but found & unused one on Ebay for £40!

The one thing that you can't seem to get is the folding mirrors as standard fitment now for some bizarre reason, that's now a £195 option. Do get the heated seats, worth every penny on a freezing cold morning!

Road noise? Sometimes it's intrusive, sometimes not. Personally I think that it's one area which could be improved.

DRL's are a legal requirement, so will come as standard.

Hi Uber Member. Thanks for your helpful reply.

DRL's are only a legal requirement on new models (from last month) but not brand new versions of an existing model such as the current Octavia.

Saying that the Elegance does still have them fitted but there is a chance that they will not be activated from the factory.

Your dealer can do this for you if requested. You can then turn them on and off as required following the process in the manual..

So, I have just got back from a visit to the dealer (Bristo's Skoda in Ipswich), where we discussed pricing on the 1.8TSI Elegance with a few options. Whilst there I took a 1.6 CR Diesel for a long test drive. I have to say I was very impressed with the smoothness and lack of noise from the engine, compared with my 2.0 TD. I was expecting to be disappointed with its performance and miss the 6 speed gearbox, but instead I am seriously considering getting one, even though the up front costs are about £1,700 more than the petrol. By the time I've looked at costs over 3 years/ 60 K miles, with the vastly lower fuel consumption and lower RFL, the diesel should still work out cheaper.

Now if only Skoda would re-introduce the 20% off deal for diesels......

The 1.8 is a lovely motor but dont expect miracles with fuel economy. I've just filled my Scout up and it has just done 260 miles on a tank of fuel. The Trip Computer reported 35 miles left.

Not a major issue for me as I only do 6k a year but a massive difference from my 1.9 which did around 480 miles doinf the same trip..

The 1.8 is much better on runs. My daily work trip is 3 miles each way and all hills.

I've just filled my Scout up and it has just done 260 miles on a tank of fuel.

Something not right there, ~23.5mpg?

No that seems to be about the norm ....

On a run it does considerably better. Had a holiday in Wales a Month after we picked it up and had about 420 out of a tank. Plenty of Motorway driving though.
