Old VRS v's New VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all, I joined the forum a while ago and thought Id have a Fabia VRS by now but it hasnt worked out yet. Im selling my car at the moment Im Im definately in the market for a fabia VRS, My only problem is I cant decide whether to get the first generation VRS or the new one. I initially didnt even think about the new one because I like the old one so much.....BUT Some skoda dealerships are offering great finance deals on the new one at the moment. Im torn on what to to. If I buy the older one I can probably just got and buy a 54 or 05 plate with around 70,000 miles outright and not have to fork out around £200 every month. The next option is the new one where I can put a £1000 deposit down and then pay £200 per month for the next 3 and a half years, This will leave me with around 3 grand which the missis already has plans for :o

Any input or comments would be greatly appreciated as Im in a dilemma on what to do !

Thanks,

Steve

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome to briskoda

On another note, please do tell where you can get a new vrs for £9400(minus interest)and i'll have one too :p :giggle::D

Have you driven both cars ?

That should then help you decide, however, there is a trade off when deciding between Old v New

There is the risk that your 2nd hand car, will start to cost money, possibly more each year than the cost of a new one with a 3 yr warranty. That preference is down to you deciding if the risk is worth it.

I personally would browse here to work out possible costs of replacement ( wear & tear) parts, servicing, fuel, Insurance, road tax over 3 years.

Their might even be a cambelt change within that 3 years depending on how recently it was done. ( thats £300 - £600 depending on where you go)

Thanks for the input mate, and thanks for all the welcomes. Ive driven my mates First generation VRS and I used to have a seat Ibiza tdi sport 130pd which is simular, I test dirve the new one tomorrow so I guess I'll have more of an idea then, From what Ive heard though theyre supposed to be great to drive. Its going to have alot to live upto as Im currently in a Mini cooper S which is awesome but a little greedy on juice.

The Cooper S is faster, better cornering than the standard MK1 Fabia VRS.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

If you can see your finances stable for the next 3 years then go for the new MK11 Fabia VRS car.

Standard MK1 Fabia VRS compared to the new MK11 Fabia VRS

I would have thought the MK11 Fabia VRS would in general beat the old MK1 Fabia VRS,

but not with the insurance companies.

Some members will put you straight on that point, who now own one.

Have a good chat with your other half for a long-term investment concerning finances, jobs in general are threatened,

and if you lost your job the car would have to go, and you end-up with no car.!!

On a high note, paying for your used VRS outright, with any repairs in general being tackled more easily, and planning ahead for servicing etc.!!

Good luck with whatever decision you make.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheers mate, Ive just found a thread on here about the new shape VRS fuel economy and tbh Im a little shocked, People seem to be getting around 32 - 36 mpg and tbh the reason Im selling the Mini is because of fuel consumption, I heard off the dealer they average around mid 40's mpg. I'll see how the test drive goes tomorrow but at the moment the older VRS looks like the better opyion for me.

Well drove the new VRS today and loved it. Placed an order for a Candy white with Black wheels and bluetooth. The draw back is having to wait 16-17 weeks before taking delivery. I also went for a service pack option.
