Test Drove a VRS

Featured Replies

WOW what can i say, I didnt expect to like it as much as i did and it didnt take long to get used to the DSG either, just a few times i went to change gear lol. It was a lot quicker than i thought too, it feels likes its got more that 180BHP, maybe thats just the DSG as it seems to keep it in the power band

Just cancelled my order for my Octavia CR Vrs as its taking forever ( ordered mid oct still no def build date :( ), once i have my deposit back its going down on one of these :-)

One went on a rolling road and it was tested at 194 bhp standard

it did feel closer to that :) it will certainly be quick enough for me and it got 42mpg on the hour drive which was alot of B roads followed by traffic, which seemed good enough for me.

I also tried one yesterday. I have driven 3 other Mk2 Fabias - a 1.4 (pre-Fl), a 1.2tsi (non-dsg) and a 1.6tdi (90hp). I was been impressed with them. Compared to my Mk1 2.0i, they were noisier, more jiggly round corners and had cheap interiors. In particular, the diesel had awful body boom starting at about 20mph. I could knock on the interior (roof and door panels) and these were in tune with the boom.

I was expecting to be impressed by the power of the VRS, but I was looking for comfort, quietness and stability. I was not disappointed! I found it was excellent on all these counts. There was still the tacky plastic (particularly the silver bits on the dash which would have to go), of course. Then the performance - frightening! For me, it was an outrageous amount of power - far more than I could ever use or manage. I would like a Fabia just like this but with, say, about 130bhp and better economy - and with the basic choice of colours.

Sounds like you're after a fabia monte Carlo then?

Heavens no! Far too 'flashy'! I want an ordinary-looking petrol Fabia Elegance in dark blue metallic with the ride, handling and comfort of the VRS, manual box, power of about 130bhp, no 'frills' on the dashboard, and, if possible, door handles that are not made by Airfix. Otherwise I am staying put with my Mk1.

It sounds like you've just described the MkI vRS perfectly!!

Not quite. I tested a VRS Mk1 before I got my second 2.0i, but the 2.0i just pipped it overall on my points rating. I find the 2.0i such an exceptional car that it is difficult to become enthusiastic about a Mk2. My test drive of the Mk2 VRS was as close as I have got so far. I have to keep looking because I will have to change one day.
