Rasp metallic sound on acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi all...

Took delivery of a brand new 1.4 TSI s mid week and loving it... I do have a couple of concerns though....

1. I can hear a metallic like rasp sound on acceleration at ay revs, its inot loud and only on accelaration but it's clearly there. Is this a characteristic or fault?

2. If I change gears slowly just before complete release of the clutch it feels a bit gritty, bit difficult to describe.

Any thoughts or experience..?

Welcome!

1. Does it sound like a heatshield loose, vibrating?

2. Never experienced anything like that, doesn't sound right. Could it be grit in the clutch pedal pivot?

Thanks for the reply.

Bit more info on 1, it's only apparent when warm, I had someone else put down the accelerator and inspected and the sound is under the car, perhaps it's the heat shield. Is there some kind of bedding in with the exhaust? Would it not rattle all the time if it were that? It's in sync with revs and only appears to be lower.

Might be something expanding with heat allowing it to vibrate / rattle. Heat shield would be my bet given the description but probably worth having it put on a ramp and inspecting (let the dealer do it under warranty?)
