vRS estate with stock shocks & 20mm H&R's, too low at the front?

Featured Replies

Hello all

We've recently bought ourselves a nice 2003 Mk1 Octy vRS estate with 67k on the clock, one of the front springs is broken (surprise!) which I knew about and haggled the price down, but I'm in a quandrie of what to replace with, I also suspect the rears which have been replaced by kwikfit at some point are non vRS as there is about 80mm of space from the wheel arch lip to the top of the tyre which seems alot?

My plan is to go down the 20mm lower H&R route purely down to the fact 4 new springs from skoda will be v expensive (on a budget so no koni shocks as well yet) and I don’t trust the quality of the original parts, especially this being used as a family wagon.

Does anyone have experience of this combo (standard shocks with H&R 20mm's) on an estate vRS? -my main concern is that I've heard the estate sits lower at the front compared to the already low front of the saloon -cant really afford a new bumper and sump everytime I go over a nasty local speed bump!

Any opinions, -also on ride quality compared to standard springs and if poss pics of this set up on an estate really appreciated!

If your on a budget I am sure someone on here would have a set of standard springs for you.

Hi

Cheers for the reply, looking for an upgrade in build quality so don’t really want to go with skoda 'snap at anytime' springs again -just don’t trust the quality.

H&R's have good reviews and in 20mm form are'nt too low compared to stock so should work ok with the standard shocks (at least for a while), also reasonable price when you compare against 4 new springs from skoda, -just concerned with the front ride height especially being an estate vRS which already sits quite low at the front.
