Secondary speed display

Featured Replies

Hi all. Well eventually collected the car on sataurday. Been playing about with it and so far I'm well impressed with it. Just been out and about locally down here in the welsh valleys and quite impressed with the 1.2tsi DSG setup with the hills. I found leaving in D is more than adequate for the hills. So far the only thing that's I find frustrating is the secondary speed being in km/h. Been through the manual and can't seem to change it to MPH. Are there anyone out there who knows if this can be changed and if it can any info be muchly appreciated. I have the elegance spec with the maxidot display. Also how is everyone getting on with the Bluetooth hands free system. I don't think the voice recognition is as good as the Bluetooth system in my 08 focus zetec sport. It was able to record your own contacts and was easy to use. Suppose it just having to adjust to the new system. Thanks

This has been covered a couple of times on the forum - it can't be changed.

The analogue dial only reads MPH and by law you have to have both KPH and MPH so the digital display carries the KPH reading.

I agree it would be nice to have it reading MPH but oh well!

Thanks. Only just noticed the analogue display. Bit of a pain but have to get used to it

you have only just noticed the analogue speedometer?

Wasn't really paying to much attention the speedometer I just tend to quickly glance to check the speed. Honestly I don't know why they not put in a dual display speedometer and both options on the maxidot. I tend to look more at the Maxidot due to the DSG

lol I take it he means the digital one???

Anyway, enjoy the car - I have the 1.2TSI DSG in Elegance spec and on the whole enjoy it - however I'd like to know how you find the DSG/engine combo - I have trouble with initial take-off being on the slow side.

I've only been out a few times due to a recent op and not really found any problems with a delay pulling out of junctions. Overall I find it really great. Find the armrest gets in the way of the handbrake at times but I tend to leave it up around town

Bluetooth is a bit hit and miss but has been much better since i went into the main contacts i call and recorded a voice tag it should just be an option when you select a number. The worst thing is when the rather dumb sounding voice doesn't understand what your saying and starts telling you how you can use the system. I know how to use it it just doesn't listen :S lol many a frustrated moment. The system on my mums yaris is as bad though reading a number out to that and it makes it up e.g. if you say 456 it will read back 84627 ggggrrrrr.

Sorry but that is not quite true.

It IS possible to remove the KPH display and replace it with the outside temperature (the KPH can be activated at any time through the MFD)

This then gives you the large MPH speed in the MFD.

All you need is someone with VCDS and have a search on here for how to do it

Thanks gizmo. Will have to look into that. Is it something the dealer can do as I'm working down by the dealership next week.

Hi fabia. Just been out and manage to record the voice tag. I see what you mean by it being hit and miss. You say a name it doesn't recognised the name but then it highlights on the maxidot. It is fustrating no where as good as the Ford handsfree system in my old focus. And the controls are bit limited on the MFSW- its not that bad but I think for the money your paying out it should be alot more user friendly and be able to use the steering wheel controls more

not just maxidot has this feature my 1.2 se has it on normal display plus when best to change to next gear up or gear down

Thanks gizmo. Will have to look into that. Is it something the dealer can do as I'm working down by the dealership next week.

Depending on the dealer - some are a lot better than others.

BTW dealers use VAS rather than VCDS (some will also have VCDS as it is more user friendly and arguably can do more) I am not sure if it can be done with VAS or not but I assume the dealer will not know either, as many will say some of the most basic changes cannot be made, when others on here can prove differently.

Here is how I changed it on a Yeti (I had also done this on my Superb):

With VCDS go to 17-Instruments and then go to Coding - 07, and change the country to Australia, (this is all you need to do with VCDS, the rest is done with the cars MFD)

you then need to go back into the maxi-dot menu:

SETTINGS

Units,

"Consu/distance" change this back to mpg (GB), mi (as it defaults to 1/100km, km),

then

SETTINGS

"MFD data" and make sure the box for Digit.speed is ticked

We also went to

SETTINGS

and unticked the "ALT.speed dis." box (this will remove the KPH speed and replace it with the outside temp display)

HTH

Thanks again gizmo. Will look to see if anyone lives near to me in south Wales. Is there any other options that can be added to the maxidot menu. SWMBO wants the autolock/unlock feature enabled on the car

Oh yes there are many things that can be coded, just a few off the top of my head are:

Anti-hijack (auto unlock)

Speedo and rev counter 'Staging' (full sweep when the ignition is turned on)

The MFD MPG consumption can be calibrated (some read over by as much as 10%)

Seatbelt warning light/bong disabled

Alarm chirp when you lock / unlock the car*

Selective door unlocking*

* these can possibly be changed by the maxiod

Plus lots more depending on the hardware fitted to the car.

Speedo and rev counter 'Staging' (full sweep when the ignition is turned on)

The RS already has this doesn't it?

Yeah it does

Likewise so does the Superb ....however the OP has neither of these cars

Speedo and rev counter 'Staging' (full sweep when the ignition is turned on)

Is there a point to this?

Is there a point to this?

Like most things in life that make you smile, there is no point in it, 'just nice'

Fair enough, I would like the alarm beep when locking/unlocking the car though, might need to find someone with a vcds up north east

Thanks all for the info. Will get in touch with someone in south Wales who can do some vcds for me over the next few weeks. Will having other features enabled affect any warranty issues? Thanks
