Brake pedal - funny goings on?

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed some funny goings on with their brake pedal? Sometimes when I'm stopped with my foot on it there will be a small clonk coming through the pedal. Othertimes it will clonk a bit when first pressed.

Anyone else noticed anything?

Have exactly the same the only thing I can think is that it is the hill hold control? Wonder if it is only the dsg cars that have this noise, used to it now though.

Yea I have noticed this too like fabia00 said asl I can think is hill holder?

I have noticed it too and also put it down to the HHC

Sounds about right. ESP will apply the brakes so you'll probably feel a little something through the peddle; they may have engineered it that way so you know when its activating, a little like the peddle vibration you get when you trigger a cars ABS.

Exactly the same. But my car is not fitted with HHC or ESP.

Feels more like movement in the pedal hinge/clevis pin on mine. Perhaps one of us ought to get to the dealer to investigate in case its a safety issue?

Mine happens mostly when I've had my foot on the pedal for a while in traffic. I need to make a proper note of when it happens so I can tell the dealer and they can replicate it - I don't want one of those "it was fine with us sir" situations! Brakes are fine, stop weill etc so I'm not too concerned. It might well be the HHC but I'm sure it does it on the flat.....but then as I said I need to make some proper notes to be sure.

Had an automatic Toyota Avensis once that stalled a few time when pulling out in traffic - dealer took me a lot more seriously when I noted time, date, weather, temp, situation, load in car etc and soon found a solution.

As for ESP priming, I notice that when first moving away and you feel a slight bump under the gas pedal as the system primes itself - done it on all other cars I've owned so that side of it is ok.

Nope mine does it too and mine is a manual. That and, more worryingly, I have had a fe occasions when slowing down it clonks, the pedal twitches down away from my foot and it feels like the brakes have been slackened off. Oddly only seems to be if you do a gentle stop though. Do a more aggressive one and it doesn't happen. Took it back to the dealers to be checked as it worried me but they said it was fine.

To the OP:

Yeah, it's absolutely the HHC. The works van does the same and as it happens it springs up on the display saying HHC Activated. I noticed this in the test drive I was on and dealer also confirmed it's the HHC kicking in

Mine does it 1.2tsi 86ps MANUAL BOX. Has anybody looked under the bonnet there is no brake servo it looks like an electric motor. Somthing like a wiper motor.
