Hydraulic headlamp leveler

Featured Replies

Does anybody know how to repair a jammed headlamp level adjuster? mine seem high but when i twist the knob nothing happens. Will i fail an mot for this not working?

Apparently they are sealed, so once they've gone, they've gone and you have to replace the whole thing. IIRC as long as the lights are correctly set and don't dazzle anyone, it should be ok. If they are too high, you can take out the adjuster from the back of the light and adjust it with a cross-head screwdriver. (the unit just twists about 90 degrees and comes out.

The only time there'll be a problem is if you carry heavy loads in the back, when I've done that, I switched the dipped beam off and used the front fogs instead ;-)

Mine leaked, so I cut the pipes and adjusted with the screwdriver, works ok :-)

I did the same for my most recent mot, failed on to low a beam, took the adjuster out and did it with a screwdriver, passed with flying colours.

Thanks for the advice was worried i may need a new part, and with the car being valued at 250 quid it always raises the question of whether to keep the old girl or not

To fit a new leveller kit looks like a night mare: the right hand side looks almost easy, but the left runs under the radiator, plus I think they are an exact fit, so very little play or give as well. Think it's one of those things that once it's gone, it's gone. (one of the very few as far as I know)

the ones on my pickup don't work either.. in fact i don't think i recall ever actually seeing one that works now i think about it :wonder:

Possibly in the MOT for next year, if it is there'll be a lot of Felicias failing.

They did work on my 11,000 mile minter I had, but don't think you can even buy the part now to fix it.

:o but honestly I don't think this will happen. As I understand it, the text on "levelling devices" refers to HID headlights - and if you have put xenons on your Felly it will probably fail MOT no matter what :p

When I got my Felly (in 2007) the leveller did work - today it just works on one side :giggle:

 cheers guys!

just read this thread and grabbed a screwdriver and a pair of cutters and been out to do mine.

took about 10 minutes to do both, but before i started i marked the wall i'm parked up to with chalk so i could check afterwards...

If your about to nip outside and do your own felly-droopy-lights...turn the adjuster screw about 6-8 turns anti clockwise and you should be done. (as long as you've cut the pipes to make it easier...)

I'll be able to see where i'm going again next time i'm coming over the Denbigh moors in sunny North Wales...
