Two (more!) Fabia vRS questions...

Featured Replies

Nearly specced my new Fabia vRS (it's taken a loooong time!), but wanted some opinions on my last couple of options.

The first is cruise control. I have it on my current octavia vrs but only really use it in average speed camera zones and due to the fact that I'm already speccing the fabia quite highly it's a cost I could do without. One thing I noticed was that on page 27 of teh handbook it refers to a 'warning against excessive speeds' in the multi-function display which basically sounds an audible beep when you go over a user preset speed, has anyone used this? Is it any good? Can it be setup on the move?

Secondly is the interior. Going for the estate in white with black wheels and thought that the red interior might be a nice contrast and add some colour. Thing is, a lot of the pictures I've seen make it look quite washed out, looking light grey and the red details not particularly vibrant. This could just be the exposure of teh photos so could anyone who's got or has seen the red interior confirm that it's as dark/black as the other option and that the red detail is bright?

Thanks all!

Cruise control -I've got it, works well but agree don't use it very often. Was a cheap option anyhow in my opinion when you take into account the VAT. However if cash is tight then don't bother. As for the audible speed warning I've never used it. Don't reckon you could program it on the move though as possibly dangerous?!

Haven't seen the red seats but think most people would say the look pretty poor (although obviously those who have ordered it will disagree...!).

assuming you want to use the audiable beep for the average speeed cameras, I simply set the trip computer to average speed and press reset, two buttons on the right stalk, easy on the move.

My dealer had a black vRs with the red interior and it looked nice, seats are black with vibrant red so it must be the photos

Cruise control....not really necessary in my book. I find that traffic flow in the UK is either too inconsistent or too busy to make decent use of it. It's also pants at maintaining a set speed downhill as its unable to retard the ignition enough to limit coasting, though may be better with an automated gearbox. I have it on my MK6 Golf and barely ever use it unless on the motorway and its really quiet.

Speed warning can be useful but it is a bit annoying as everytime you drop below the threshold and then go back over it will "ding". Problem with it is that it irritates to the point where you disable it, not where you slow down (well it did in my case anyway!).

In all honesty I think the vRS is plenty well enough equipped anyway. We've added about 3 things to ours. I know alot of people have gone wild spec wise but personally i'd keep options to what you feel is essential and make the most of the VAT saving. A vRS at 14.5k in my mind is cracking value, optioned to the hilt at 17ish K its then not such good value. RRP it is possible to option one of these up to £21k, you'd have to have a screw loose or money to burn to do it as you'll never see any of that extra cash come trade-in time.

We've ordered a white estate with dark chromes, did briefly consider the red but played it safe and went grey. Think it will probably wear better and show the dirt less than the red.

When I ordered my white VRS estate in January, the system didn't allow the option of red interior.

However, it would have for the hatch :wonder:

I agree that the red can look washed out or faded in the interior though - but this is probably just my view from internetweb photos.

I have the red which looks quite sharp against all the black inside the cabin. However its not as red as the monte carlo red cabin option !

I do find the vRS interior quite dark and the red helps it split all the black up.

Good luck

From a personal point of view cruise control is something i would have had if i could have waited for a car to be built rather than taking the one in the showroom. however, it is very much down to personal taste and will really depend on your driving style and the roads you drive on. I have a 40 mile each way commute to work each day, in my previous car that had cruise control i would not dream of using it on the first fifteen miles of the journey as the motorway is far to busy however the next 20 miles are fairly quiet so plonking it n cruise made the journey fairly relaxed. Therefore for me, it would have been worth having.

Having today driven to Birmingham and back from Southampton, yes i would have found the journey more relaxing but it is not the end of the world not to have it.

With regard to using the maxidot, it does work, but i don't think i would like to change the setting whilst on the move. it does help me to slow down a little as the VRS will quite happily exceed legal maximums with little or no effort. But it is only a warnig to tell you that you have exceeded your pre set max (must have done it at least half a dozen times today).

Thats my 2p worth anyway.
