5 more days to count down

Featured Replies

Well after what seems like forever (65 days - not too bad compared to some i appreciate) just spoke to the dealer who confirmed my new vrs has arrived and will be ready for collection on 24/03/11 (Thursday). Ive got the new 11 regestration sorted and my mats which ive ordered seperately and am just counting down these last few days before the fun starts.

Im driving my fiat (part-ex) so slowly and carefully at the moment because with my luck i'll crash the bloody thing before I can finally off-load it for a proper car! All 4 tyres are so close to being illegal (they're still legal now though of course!) that I just need to trade it in ASAP. Keep your fingers crossed for me and ill let you all know how the vrs go's when i get it.

Just a thought. I saw a review somewhere stating you had to let the Turbo warm up for a few seconds before starting a journey and for a minute or so to 'spool' down after. Is that right? - Im not very technical with cars im afraid.

bit of a myth i think, modern cars dont require this warming up and cooling down process might be wrong but your in the best place to find out

That is good practice for any car but especially on one with a turbo, it relies on oil from the engine for cooling and lubrication so it is good to make sure it is adequately supplied before you start giving it the beans. After you have finished having your fun it is also good practice to let it cool and slow down before stopping the engine for the same reason. No need to go overboard and let it idle for 5 minutes, just take it steady when you are driving down your road and let the engine idle for a few seconds when you have stopped. All should then be fine.

No need to worry about warm up and cool down of the turbo, modern cars dont need to be treated with the same kid gloves as the old school cars like Cossies and Impreza's. I just wouldnt drive it too hard until the oil is up to a decent temperature, also dont rev the car then turn it off as thats no good for it either. Both things wont kill the turbo but could contribute to premature wear and reduce its service life. So long as the car is at idle when you turn it off all will be well.
