Turbo hoses or worse?

Featured Replies

Just been driving on a dual carriageway steadily accelerating, nothing silly, when bang, big plume of smoke loss of power and feeling like it will cut out if I press on the accelerator. It seems ok with just the engine pulling the car the problem seems to come when the turbo comes in, so if I do accelerate the car rocks back and forth. There is no visible oil anywhere under the bonnet or dripping from underneath. Anyone any ideas. It does sound to me like hoses but I'm a little concerned at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds a lot like a turbo boost pipe to me check the top hose next to the fuel filter, its common for popping off as when you are on and off the boost the little tabs wear down untill it blows off, if it is that a new pipe is around £25

All pipes I can see from above seem to be intact. Sorry not overly sure on the workings of turbos, but is there another pipe underneath that may have come off?

There are a stack of pipes that need to be checked. Turbo to inter-cooler and inter-cooler to EGR/intake joint. Other possible causes, sticking VNT/N75 valve/vacuum control module.

Have you had the plastic under the engine tray off yet? My lower pipe has popped off twice, once was obvious the other time wasn't. I used a big jubilee clip and haven't had an issue since. Have you recently had your cambelt done? Mine popped just after I did, the pipe doesn't being messed around with. Good luck

Cambelt was done 3 years ago. Not had tray off as was on my way to a social do. Will try to look tomorrow. Not absolutely sure what I am looking for, will it be obvious?

Yep obvious. Lying on your back with your head under the car you'll need a torex or allen key head to remove about 12 screws from around the plastic tray. Then look next to the area of the front offside wheel, basically the boost pipe runs down that side from the top of the engine then does a 90 degree turn at the bottom. It'll be nice and oily, if it has popped off here then don't just be tempted to push it back on or tie wrap it, it wont work and you'll kick yourself. Get a jubilee clip and that'll be the end of it.

BTW boost pipe is about 3-4 inches in diameter just incase there are any other pipes nearby.

Thank you so much for this info. It was spot on. Fixed it with x2 jubilee clips, one on the rubber hose and the other on the plastic area the rubber hose connects into, with tie-wraps around them both so hopefully should not blow off again and the car seems to be running spot on now.
