Rear Suspension

Featured Replies

hi i have a mk 1 octavia 1.9 td i use it for a taxi i want a softer ride but still good on handleing for the way home ;)

can anyone recomend some new rear shocks , i love the car but i feel every bump, i cant afford to do the hole lot at the moment , but the noise is coming from the rear, the shocks are not leaking but they dont seem to be doing much in the way of damperning bumps, i probably get the rear subframe bushes done also , can any one recomend some good ones , ive looked on ebay but there so many different make etc, cheers

Think the ride depends more on the springs rather than the shocks as they just dampen the spings. Sure you haven't got a broken spring? They usually go where you can't really see them.

thanks yea i did ent think it would be the springs but i could change these also, can anyone recomend a good set

If you are getting a loud banging noise from the rear when going over bumps the rear beam axle bushes have gone. Standard TDI springs & axle bushes can be sourced from a motor factor, GSF, Eurocarparts etc.

Hi

If you have a noise then it could be broken spring , is quite common , but rear beam bushes are more of an issue

When it comes to comfort shockers , I think the Koni FSD`s can not be beaten , but with a bit of a hammering , then they do stiffen up a bit , for some nice bends

But on another note , the shockers do wear , after approx 50k miles they are on their way out

Sarah

Try cheapo springs and shocks then add a rarb to stiffen it up on bends., would be interesting to see if it works lol.

BTW I have a pair of nearly new standard Octavia springs done about 1000 miles at most in my garage gathering dust, PM me if you want to buy them.

Koni FSD`s yes i did read a review on these , do they really nacker that quick , i do that sort of mileage in under a year, i was hoping to get somthing to last a bit longer

i think i get them rear bushes changed first the mechanic reakons they dont need changing yet but he said they are starting to perish , just feels like im dragging the back end over the bumps and the hole car seems to resonates so noisy inside the car it drives me mad , i hate wasting money on things i dont need , but it does seem these rear subframe bushes are to fault. am i better off going to skoda for oe parts as i want things to last as the job i do the car gets a beating , comfort and quility comes before handleing, anyway i rolled my last octavia (on way home no passagers) so im a bit less fearless on the corners than i used to be ;)

Arn't fabia vrs ones a goods upgrade?

He meant that any damper will be past its best in 50k, not just FSDs.
