dash click

Featured Replies

I've taken my '56 vrs to 2 mechanics to find a fault which is causing a clicking/creaking noise in my dash, but they were both stumped.

They both checked over the supsension and found nothing, the last guy said he thinks it's inside the dash somewhere or behind the bulkhead. One of them tightened the steering column but it didn't fix it.

It's a fairly audible clicking/cracking noise, coming from the far right hand side of the dash. It only happens when you turn the wheel, either left or right.

It's driving me crazy, If all else fails I'm gonna get a loud exhaust to drown the noise out :)

Surely someone else has had this one?

I've got something very similar at the moment. Been happening ever since the car had its annual service and MOT. Brown's assure me its nothing dangerous, but I can't work out what is causing it, and its rapidly driving me round the twist....

If you get any solutions, I'd be grateful to hear them as well.

I trawled the Fabia 1 forum for every occurrence of the word 'clicking' and found the following post, and believe it or not, it's fixed my problem! I'm so pleased, I no longer have this annoying click when the car flexes round corners. Took the car for a good drive, and it didn't click once! I can now enjoy the car without the CD player blaring :) It's a very easy fix to try, takes approx 30 seconds to do. Worth a try. The original post is here

It's hard to know if it's the same sound I had but try the following just in case it's the same thing. Mine made the sound when driving on an uneven road as the chassis flexes a little.

Open the bonnet and look at the hinges, on the top side of the hinge there are two small lumps of rubber/plastic (one at either side of the car) to support the hinge once the bonnet is shut. If you twist them 90deg they come out without braking so you can put them back if it is'nt them. Once these were removed my rattle stopped. If you look at the lower side of the hinge you will see where they rub so you could lube that area if you don't want to remove them. Fingers crossed it's them.

Regards Chris

I think Chris has posted your answere

The wifes vRS was doing the same for months after we bought it, I tried everything, spent hours trying to stop it, dash out, clocks, stearing column stripped and rebuilt and it still did it.

Then one day while I was cleaning under the bonnet I notice these two plastic mountings attached to the underside of the bonnet, I took both of them off....problem solved.

Magic! Thanks a lot. Seems to be exactly the same problem. I just got a chance to try pulling the two rubbers (both of which were hard as rock), and the noise is gone

A few days on and I'm still over the moon the noise is gone, it's like a different car, perfect :D

:D Same here. When I first heard the noise, I thought there was something going horribly wrong. And once I'd heard the noise, it became very difficult to ignore....
