gearbox oil filler location

Featured Replies

Hello All,

just been searching the forum - is the filler for the grearbox on an Octy TDi 52 plate (5 speed) in the same place as others (eg on front of the gearbox) - got the oil /tool ready and the torque settings - just wondering where as could not see the thing when I changed toe engine oil

Ta

Yep, same place.

Pretty sure that on mine there is a black metal (air-con?) pipe which doubles back on itself near to where the filler plug is.

Are you checking your gear box oil level or changing it?

If the latter, then make sure you can get the filler plug out before draining the box....

It requires some large-ish hex drive, which I did not have to hand, so I welded a nut and bolt together and used my normal socket set on it

In reference to your original post regarding torque I just nipped it up and then a bit more, iirc.

That will be a 17mm hex drive IIRC.

Make sure the car is level before trying to check the level or refill it - I realised my drive drops off at the end only after I had drained the gearbox!

Someone on here (was it mbames?) came up with a handy way to refill using a length of hose and a funnel as the pipe that bends around in front of the fill plug rather gets in the way.
