Got mot coming up June so can get it booked in early may. Last service was done June 6th last year. Thing is, car has only done 3000 miles in the year. Will the service light come on at the anniversary or is it more sophisticated?

Should I service it on the year?

I do mainly short journeys so I'm inclined to get an oil change to keep it sweet.

Fabias are fixed service interval so the spanner will appear just before 12 months or 10k which ever comes first. I few weeks longer or shorter than 12 months isn't going to kill your car.

I think it is irrelevant the number of miles you have done, oil will degrade with age, cold/hot cycles and when the engine is running.
