Winter tyres in the shed

Featured Replies

Refitted my alloys yesterday after giving them a good polishing. The car looks so good with its 16s back on but bloody hell, had I forgotten how noisy those Bridgestone tyres were. The ride is firmer of course after squashy 15" winters which is fine as it sharpens up the steering slightly but even at 30mph I can hear a significant difference. Too new to change though so I'll just have to get used to it again :wonder:

That's my job for next week to change back to my alloys, had a quick glance at the alloys the day and thought about fitting them on the car again.

My winters are almost on the wear limiters so will probably keep them on until they're completely worn before switching back to summers. Giving me all Summer to order a fresh set of Winters for the next one.

My thoughts exactly re tyre noise - my summer tyres are Contis. My winters are 185/55 15inch steels and not only are they much quieter but fuel consumption was much better. Where I was getting 54 mpg on my commute to work it is now 51 so I am going to fit narrower tyres when it comes to change them - 195/50 16 give almost the same rolling radius as the 205/45 16.

When I first fitted my winters (185/55x15) I also seemed to get slightly better consumption but wasn't sure as I was trying different fuels at the time. It will be intersting to see if my fuel consumption deteriorates now the 205s are back
