Gear Ratio Question for the teccies

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the gear ratios in the Gearbox for the following cars

Skoda Octavia 4x4 - 5 Speed

Audi TT 225 - 6 Speed

Stuart

Not sure on the actual ratios but, IIRC, the 6 speed box from the TT has a similar ratio in top to the RS (near as dammit), first is marginally shorter and the other gears are stacked closer.

I'll try and dig out the actuals for you.....

Here goes....

Gear ratios/mph per 000 for RS as follows:

1st = 3.3/6.2

2nd = 1.94/10.5

3rd = 1.31/15.6

4th = 1.03/19.8

5th = 0.84/24.3

Therefore max speed at 7k is

1st = 43

2nd = 74

3rd = 109

4th = 139

5th = 170.1

4x4

1st----3.780--- 4.8

2nd---2.060--- 8.87

3rd---1.360--- 13.5

4th---1.030--- 17.8

5th---0.840--- 21.8

Final drive: 3.940

Max mph @ 6k (I think that is where your limiter is, but if I'm wrong you'll need to revise these figures)

1st = 28.8

2nd = 53.2

3rd = 79.2

4th = 106.8

5th = 130.8

TT (6 speed box, redline 6600)

1st Gear Ratio 3.417

2nd Gear Ratio 2.105

3rd Gear Ratio 1.481

4th Gear Ratio 1.152

5th Gear Ratio 1.167

6th Gear Ratio 0.970

Final Drive Ratio 4.20

just trying to find the mph/000 now for the TT 6 speed ....

Max mph @ 6k (I think that is where your limiter is, but if I'm wrong you'll need to revise these figures)

Not sure where the standard limiter is but I know both mine and Stuart's is over 7k.

Stuart - Do have the same concern as me about losing acceleration by changing to the 6spd 'box?

I've had a look at my car's rev counter and that of a vRS this evening. The red starts at 6500rpm on both. There is no mechanical reason why the AUQ (vRS) should be able to rev any higher than the AUM (FWD) or ARX (4X4).

have rev'd mine to at least 6500 in the past, not often though

Jon/others, Ok time for "questions from a simpleton" its late & the grey matters not working !!

Final drive ratio, is that the diff ratio ? What Im trying to establish is what will change if I mate a TT box to my 4x4. First on the 4x4 is virtually un usable, its too low, what do you think the effects would be of this conversion to the overall driveability of the car ??

Reasons for the thought process is that a new uprated clutch is

.......a new uprated clutch is

I actually find 1st useful when I'm wanting to get a really fast launch and as I don't use the top end of 5th very often the top speed isn't an issue for me. My main reasons for changing would be for increased strength and better fuel consumption.
