Sorry to start another thread about cambelts however I've just got a quick question.

My car is booked in for a cambelt change next week and they are going to change the belt and water pump.

They are not however changing the tensioner or rollers, how important is it that these parts are changed? Or do people just do it for piece of mind?

I would always replace when changing belt for piece of mind. I would also suggest getting the alternator belt done at the same time.

I would only ever consider using the complete genuine kit when changing the cambelt. I had a tension break up on a Ford some years ago causing the belt to jump the sprocket which snapped the cam & bend some valves.

Should be under model name forum & what type of engine??? TENSIONERS SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY TIME THE CAMBELTS ARE!!!!! Most cambelt OEM kits include the bolts and tensioners, but NOT the idleing pulleys!!! Best to get these changed every second cambelt change (if you can afford it, every change!)I also get the altenator belt done every cambelt change, also I get the alternator belt tensioner and water pump changed every second cambelt change ( :swear: EXPENSIVE) :@ but cheaper than a FUBAR engine :D Just noticed that you probably had work done now, did they do any of above????

it's actually the pump and/or the idler which is most likely to fail tbh, i would get them to change them as well whilst they have it apart. it's fools economy not to really
