Removing grille

Featured Replies

i need to remove my grille

my new honeycomb insert has arrived and i have arranged to have the outer grille wrapped.

has anyone done this who can give me some directions and tips.

There are 5 small torx screws at the bottom of the grille surround, and one bigger torx screw higher up in the middle (behind the badge).

There are also 5 plastic clips that you need to squeeze with long-nose pliers to make them pop through holes in the bonnet - this then releases the entire grille + surround.

To take the black insert out of the surround is a bit trickier - you have to (VERY CAREFULLY!) prize the clips away - these are easy to snap to you REALLY need to take your time. There are probably 8-10 clips to jiggle about before you can get the two bits separated.

The honeycomb grille from superskoda isn't a 100% perfect fit (well, mine wasn't) - it fits fine inside the grille surround but makes the whole grille sit slightly proud when fitted to the car - I had to shave a few mm off the black plastic on the back of the honeycomb insert in order for it to sit flush onto the car. Don't worry if you need to do this though - you can't see this bit once it's fitted so it doesn't need to be neat.

One bit of advice is - you need to cut the secondary bonnet release pull under the bonnet when fitting the honeycomb grille. My advice - don't cut the size off that are described in the instructions - I did and I could have easily have left another inch or so, so if I was you i'd leave an extra 30mm or so - you can always cut a wee slice more off if you need to.

thanks, that will really help.

what did you use to shave a couple of mm off the plastic ?

what did you decide about the 19" vmrs

i think i am going to go for the 18s - they have quoted me £999

Just a stanley knife. It really is only a couple of mm you need to shave off - right up at the top corners.

Decided to hold off on the alloy wheels just now, my car is booked in to get the existing wheels painted anthracite in early April.

The ones that attach the grille to the bonnet can be easily popped off using a screwdriver that takes those different kinds of bits, Star, Flat Torque etc.

Just push onto them to squeeze the clips inwards - they then pop through the bonnet.

Regarding separating the chrome from the black grill.... I use a flat head screwdriver and slowly pry it apart? I'm having great difficulty removing it, and quite worried the chrome latch might break.

Yes, thats what I used, but it took a LONG time since you have to be very careful, the latches on the chrome part are easily broken.
