Conspiracy theory or do they really exist

Featured Replies

Other than seeing photos and articles on the Internet, TV ads from several months ago and two (yes TWO!) Yetis at Telfords Car Showroom in Carlisle (1 hour's drive), I haven't seen any evidence of them on the road.

Do they really exist, or is it just hype? I'm on the roads quite a lot in Cumbria and it would be nice to say to my wife, "That's what the beast looks like in real life" - as yet not a blooming glimmer!!

There even seems to be a tremendously long waiting list - maybe that's the reason why there's not many on the road!

We live close to Carlisle and on the last two shopping jaunts into town we have seen two Yeti's on each occasion plus one in the Lanes car park.

We don't see that many but perhaps as many as we would expect for a fairly rare car. Might see a few more in the area including those in Telford's showroom if they would do better deals than they have with me on my last two purchases from them. Hopefully there will be one around this immediate area late May ????

Come to Sussex, Franco & I live close to each other, and have been known to 'nod and wink at each other emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

You can also chain that situation in Cumbria, but going to your local dealer and slapping a deposit done. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

The link to the Google Yeti Map in my signature will give you a clue as to where they might be...

A likely theory for Yeti scarcity is that, whilst it is a notable sales success for Skoda exceeding expectations and targets, and creating a six month (or so) waiting list; there were overall not that many sold. Compare this;-

A natural competitor (?) to the Yeti is the Nissan Qashqai that sold 39,048 units in 2010, which made it the 10th best selling car in UK.

By comparison Skoda in 2010 sold 41,240 units of all models. I believe Yeti accounting for some 2,500 of these (not sure of this figure, but other figures taken from the SMMT).

I think it has now been proved beyond all doubt that the Yetis you see are men dressed up in a sort of white Chewbacca costume

Now that is a comment I like! :)

HI yes they do exist. We went to Guernsey for 4 days last month for a break and saw a Yeti as we arrived at the airport. This was followed by TEN (10) !! more during the next 3 days- 8 different colours, so there are at least 8 there!! Since returning we have only seen 3 in the last 4 weeks not counting our own.

Regards Rod.

I now see so many Yeti's in Northumberland, suddenly emerged in the last 2 months, that I am no longer bothering to post them in the "Spotted a Yeti" thread. They are not in the same sales league as a Qashquai for example but they are working through the system, it will just take time.

Skoda only sold 40,000 cars? I find that hard to believe. Since I started driving one, I really do notice them more and it seems that they are taking over the world.

Maybe the other metal is now blending into the background and 40000 cars a year is a lot over the 10 years or so that they have been producing "proper" cars (by which I mean VWs in a different suit).

saw 2 yesterdat whilst I was walking through Leeds, one in a car park, one doing an illegal U turn. plus my own of course.

I have suddenly started to see a lot more around generally.

There will be one more on the road in Cumbria from Saturday.
