central locking and reversing sensors

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 04 new shape octavia elegance diesel. The drivers door central locking only seems to open every now and again and the reversing sensors only work on the odd occasion. Does anyone know if these are connected and could it be the convience unit. Thanks in anticipation dave

Hi Dave, no the central locking and reversing sensors are not linked. The cental locking will go through the convenience unit but the sensors are a standalone unit. Could the central locking be a problem with your key fob having a low battery? Have a look at the alarm light on the drivers door card. When you lock the car it should flash rapidly for a few seconds before settling down to a steady flashing, I believe anything different indicates a fault in the central locking system somewhere.

There have been posts in the past about non functioning reversing sensors, mostly down to moisture getting into a connector block somewhere behind the bumper, it works fine in warm dry weather but packs up when cooler and damper conditions are prevalent.

Hi, Ian thanks for the reply, as you mention i think the reversing sensors do work in drier weather and i will certainly monitor it. I dont think there is a problem with the battery in the key as it does it with the second key as well, as a note when the door does not unlock the button on the centre console with the picture of the key on it lights up. I will try a new battery at weekend and post any findings. Thanks again. Dave

Hi Dave, that is a strange one with the central locking, the only time I have notice the key symbol in the central locking button illuminating is when I have activated the anti hijack feature and the car locks itself when I get over about 10 mph.
