Newbie with question

New to this Forum so hi to everyone. I have just bought off a friend of mine an Octavia 1.8T Lauren & Klement Estate 53 Plate. My question is, it has a SYPHONY/radio 6CD changer audio system that obviously is factory fitted and to be truthfull sounds awfull to me.I expected it to sound alot better, but is not that clear and sounds a bit strangled to me. I do realise the speakers in the doors are in not alot of space but can anybody tell me if it is the head unit or the speakers that are at fault as it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the Pioneer i had in my Volvo 850. Any thoughts ?

I have the same car and will change ALL speakers and put a active subwofer under the seat. I have alredy done the same on a Skoda Felia and the sound is SUPERB! I can post photos and links after i have done the work.
