Greenline DSG

Featured Replies

Hello,

I went for a test drive in a Greenline Ambition this morning and found it quite a pleasant drive.

Now I must confess to owning a 170DSG Elegance but I'm doing more and more company mileage and the IRL €104 road tax versus €447 made me take notice of the smaller engine. Also with the extra mileage and the price of diesel I'm thinking long and hard of downsizing. Don't get me wrong I love the 170DSG it is quite an animal of an engine but most times when I use the extra poke I'm using it because I can not because I need to. On general business mileage i'm staying at or below the speed limit so the extra horseys are a bit of a waste. Also now that the greenline is available in the Elegance spec I wouldn't have to rough it compared to the original greenline.

Obviously if Skoda roll out the Greenline efficiencies across the whole range like the new Passat my choice will be even greater but right now I'm thinking "economy stupid"...to mangle a saying...

Anyway question is does anyone know if Skoda are planning to offer the Greenline with a DSG for IRL. Is the DSG being offered on the 1.6 in any other territory?

Regards,

GT

Don't know the answer to your question but your comment below is spot on.

I would look at the B7 Passat estate if I was you, DSG 140 urban is 44.5 mpg, estate looks nicer than the saloon, but the mpg is the deal for me, that's 8 mpg up on the old model CR, as my B6 140 dsg is in the book as 32 urban and that's pretty well what it does I'd say the mid 40's around the town isn't to be sniffed at.

Dont think we will ever see the DSG in a Greenline, part of the way that the greenline achieves its lower CO2 figures is by using much longer gearing. The DSG also effects CO2, and you wont get the stop/start technology either, so I guess, if you fitted a DSG it will no longer be possible to call it greenline because its CO2 emissions will be higher.

I thought that myself, but VW are doing DSG Bluemotion models now so you never know.

With the Mk1 Greenline (like I have) I don't think you ever could get a DSG Greenline - the 1.9 TDI seems only to have been fitted with the 5spd 'box - not sure whether VW or Audi ever fitted a 6 Spd with their 130 TDIs nack in the day, but I would imagine it's all to do with gearing and drivetrain matching.

The 1.6 may handle the DSG, but if it's like any other popular engine choice (1.4 TSI and 1.2 DSG combo) then VW and Audi will take the lion's share of the drivetrains and shuffle Skoda and Seat to the back of the build line...

If there is to be a DSG Greeny, it won't be with a 1.9, as you say 1.6CR but probably a 2.0CR in the end, have you seen the mega impressive fuel figures for the B7's yet?

Wrong forum I appreciate but as a driver of a 1.6 CR DSG Tavia, I cannot see why they cannot produce a Greenline DSG, it is only a matter of controlling the change points for the DSG, optimised for economy, and since the 7 speed is dry there should be NO fuel penalty.

just a thought

Ps I got up to 73mpg over 25 odd miles on Friday and 65mpg

over 125 miles on Sunday past
