smooth tick-over on a 1.3 Felicia MPI

Featured Replies

Hi All- just a quick note with some good news for a change - managed to get my Felicia to tick over so smoothly that for the first time ever, actually wondered if the engine had cut out! I'd had a misfire from a leaky inlet-manifold gasket, so popped in a new one (easy fix, less than an hour and cost €4! - New fuel filter (harder to fit than the bloody gasket!), cleaned the throttle-body and air-mass sensor with petrol, a toothbrush and some cotton buds- fitted a new NGK lambda sensor, as in several postings here it'd been said they really should be replaced every 50 or 80k miles (depending on the post!)- for the sake of a few quid on ebay, i stuck one in anyway- cleared all the ECU 'faults' with a VAG-COM cheapy ebay cable ( the faults were Lambda related, because of the leaking manifold-gasket.) Finally, put some fuel-treatment in the tank, for cleaning the injectors, and that actually made a big difference- its really smooth, responsive and seems to be much much better on fuel than it had been. so, there we are.....some GOOD news for a change! - thanks to all for their advice and information.

Sounds like I have a similar problem, not too sure whether I have a leak on inlet or not though, how did you find out? Did you pay much for the lambda sensor? I found them to be about £70 for post 1999 model. Probably try doing the same to mine to see if it clears the issue. My felly cuts out every now and again and won't restart straight away unless i hold the throttle open whilst cranking and even then it struggles a hell of a lot

hiya- you can get a cheapy lambda sensor for about £25, but they're not really recommended by anybody in the posts here- the NGK one i fitted cost about £48 on ebay- and i tracked down the inlet manifold gasket problem with the cheapy ebay VAG-COM cable- it consistantly showed the same faults showing up, the lamdba sensor going beserk - also, as the misfire was happening at all temps, chances are it wasnt the temperature sensor-

the original gaskets are ****e, cheap as chips and easy enough to fit- well worth doing anyway-

hope this helps- cheers
