vag com using vista

Featured Replies

ive just got a vag com cable and software off ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220518250615&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

ive set it up and everything and the program runs fine.

when i connect it to the car i find what comm its connected to and save it.

when i go to auto scan the car it runs for a few seconds and then crashes.

a window comes up saying program has stopped working and close.

does anyone else have this problem running vista?

What did the company supplying the cable say when you asked them about this issue?

I'm yet to get a reply from them

I just wondered if anyone else has used this cable and software using vista

The software (VCDS) works fine under Vista. I ran it for a good while.

I suspect it's the cable that's causing the issue, or more specifically the driver(s) supplied with it. Hence your best bet being with the cable supplier.

Yes I agree it's to do with me not installing the correct drivers but the instructions aren't very clear for vista.

The company have got back to me saying it's important to get the drivers right before using the software.I will have another look later

You are running VCDS-Lite - correct? If you are running their illegal distribution of VAG-COM 409, VAG-COM 409 is not Vista compatible. They should know that by now since we released VCDS-Lite to replace VAG-COM 409 more than a year ago. Your crashes could be 409 & Vista issues in addition to driver issues.

right ive just been out to the car and tried the vcds-lite and it seems to connect and scan but doesnt find any codes as half way through says its unregistered......doh.

when a friend scanned my car it came up with a few faults.

i dont know if this is due to me using the lite version or my lite version isnt running properly.

what can you do with the lite version?will it search and find fault codes?

Here is a comparison between full VCDS and VCDS-Lite - which also details which features need registration and which do not.

VCDS-Lite will read all codes but will only give English descriptions of a sub set of the codes. The rest will say something to the effect that in order to see the full description, you need to register and pay the $99 fee. But, the VAG diagnostic code number is always given. You may have to look that code up in other resources.

Doesn't look like I can do much with the lite version then.

Seems I've now got a cable and a program I can't really use????

Go back to the supplier for a refund. As you say, it sounds like it's not fit for purpose.
