Hissing noise when steering

Featured Replies

Right, so, last week my power steering fluid decided it was going to escape, so had a look underneath and found the problem, a pipe that comes from the pump into the steering rack has a nut on it, that was loose so tightened it and topped up the unit, was still leaking so took out the pipe and found a split o-ring. Replaced that and topped up with stop leak power steering fluid. All seemed well until today when the steering started getting heavy again. When Im at a stand still and turn right on the steering wheel I hear a hissing noise, I can't find a major leak round the pump, gasket could do with replacing but it doesn't look to be leaking much at all, possibly just fluid from the previous leak. The hissing noise I hear when I turn to the right seems to be coming from the drivers side of the car. I got underneath and think I found a more important issue and possibly something to do with the hissing, or maybe not. I've taken some photo's on my phone so please excuse the quality.

Around the PCV hose linkage (image 1) from the intercooler there seems to be a lot of deposit, its quite greasy and thick. Look further along the pipe (image 2) the pipe was actually unclipped, I left it how I found it and took a picture. I guessed that it was not right for the pipe to not be connected tightly and noticed a heavy deposit of what seems to be oil around the back of the engine and pretty much everywhere else around where the pipe is situated.

I'm wondering whether any one can tell me what's wrong. I clipped the pipe back in but it doesn't seem very tight, I have left the car up in the air with battery disconnected so haven't been able to test anything for differences or whether the hose will pop back off when I put load on the engine.

Please help me, I'm getting tired of the power steering and now I've found another issue it's worrying me as I'm not going to be in a position for any big replacements for at least a month.

I just realised the 2nd image is mirrored so imagine it the other way round :) got a friend who's a ford mechanic and he said it could be a worn clip. Try a new 1. Does this sound like it could work?
