Cold Engine Starts

Featured Replies

Hi guys I been reading that cold engines cause more wear to cars when regularly done. I tend to wait for my glow plung light to go out and then just set off. Is this the correct way or is there another better way? I drive a diesel

Yes. And drive gently for the first couple of miles while the engine warms and the oil reaches everywhere.

Most wear is caused when the engine is cold, it is best to start up and drive off, don't let the engine idle for too long as it won't get up to temperature quickly. Better to put it under a gentle load to warm it up quicker and when it is up to temperature then you can give it the beans!!
