REAR BUMPER

Featured Replies

The upper corner of rear bumper on my 2009 Octavia is sticking out of the bodywork behind the drivers side rear door, any idea how to repair/refix ? :S

Hi

There are three or four screws holding the bumper to the wheel inner arch. They pass through the mud flap when fitted and hold it on.

In addition there is a single screw that holds the top most / forward most pointed corner of the bumper to the car.

The screw is dificult to see and is at right angles to the line of the car with the head of the screw pointing into the car away from you. It differs from the other lower down in that is goes through the metal of the car body into the bumper. The others lower down merely hold plastic bumper to the plastic wheel inner arch.

You will need a stubby screw driver to get at it. Either the screw is missing or loose or it has stripped the plastic of the bumper. I worried about this when I fitted a towbar so I pumped a little hot glue into the hole in the bumper.

You could use some epoxy or similar - let it set then use a self tapping screw to cut into the new material.

 Thanks for that, I located the screw but the bumper appears to be distorted between that point and the upper forward corner of the bumper and although there is flexibility with the bumper it is impossible to retain it in position- I was thinking about carefully using self-tapping screw through into rear quarter panelto hold in position- I know a couple of folk with same problem and wonder if Skoda are aware of problem. Finally used heavy duty rubber based adhesive between bumper and rear quarter panel-still holding.
