First time on this forum, first time anything Skoda, ( Roomster ).

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have lots of questions about the Roomster 2 & 3, 58-59- 10 plate, automatic, 1.6 petrol, which I have yet to purchase.

The one burning question I have, has any one on this forum converted their Roomster to run on LPG?

Is the above conversion at all possible, the rule of thumb I have always believed is any thing over 2000cc, it's OK to do such a conversion but on a Roomster 1.6 I'm concerned about possible engine performance, ( loss )?

More questions will follow once I have a clearer picture on the above question, regardless of if it can or not or advisable to be done, I will be buying a Roomster.

Any advise, opinions would be most welcome.

I've not heard of anyone having any problems with LPG'ing a Skoda Roomster 1.6 but I'd check with a professional LPG fitter as they could advise you best. As far as I knew LPG doesn't reduce performance much although it can damage your engine. Toyota Landcruiser V8s which are commonly LPG'd can suffer engine wear if the fitter doesn't do a proper job.

Hi James, have you come across an LPGed Roomster, I can not find any such example or an owner who has done so.

It's experience of rather then asking LPG experts who might me a little bias.

But I would get a professional to install such a system.

I have a Roomster Automatic 1.5 2008 converted to LPG.

Soon after I bought it I was shocked by the low mpg and wanted to do something about it.

It runs just fine, don't notice any difference.

Apart from the benefit of half price fuel - the auto does 30mpg so effectively I now get 60mpg equivalent.

These are the things to consider -

1. filling with gas can be a bit scary, my wife runs on petrol if she runs out of gas.  She won't use the gas system.

A puff of gas blows off when you disengage.

2. the tank is smaller, we have a range of 180miles.

3. consider where the stations are.

4. servicing is required once a year - about £80 - only lpg installers will do it.

5. The spare wheel needs to go somewhere. Its ok inside the roomster boot but you need to keep the centre bolt for holding the wheel and get that positioned at the side in the boot.  Also get a wheel cover.  Make sure it is positioned not to push up against the parcel shelf.

other than that -it saves a lot of money
