Expected life of an Exhaust System ?

Featured Replies

Hello Members

My 2005 Fabia VRS with some 51550 miles on speedometer, covering 6000/ 7000 per year wondered, how much longer my exhaust system may last.

Having said that, I ask you members how much would the whole complete system cost to be replaced in round figures, not a noisy one, want one like the original.

Guessing it would not be Skoda parts dept, but an exhaust retailer like KWIK-FIT for instance, with a balance of value for money?

I see looking underneath the car the catalyst is on the front pipe, with a middle section of plain pipe, and a huge silencer at the rear.

Thanks one and all for your input.

They last for ages, I change very few exhaust to be fair on our cars compared with the likes of Vauxhall etc. Most of the ones I have changed have been due to corroded mountings which are a little bit of a weak point, but even then most of them although 10+ years old are still in good working order.

Thanks for that info 'Tech1e' , much appreciated.

I will ask is there one particular mounting that gets most corroded, as maybe I could slow it's corrosion??

As to cost, can you throw any figures at me, thanks.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I had to replace my back box and midsection (inc mid box) after five years...due to rust on the boxes about to fail the the next MOT!!! Mind you the amount of grit/salt that they throw on the roads up here is stupid!!! Had to replace the front section which includes the second cat about 18months later as the flexi pipe section had given up and was leaking!!!! So say every 5-6years for whole new system!! Having had problems with a 200cell stainless sports cat... and having to swap back to OEM, I'd say it's safe to swap back box for stainless (I went for REMUS which has lasted 6 years so far all ok!) but go OEM for the rest!!
