Exhaust Corrosion - 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Had the Bora serviced today (54 reg) and he has advised that there is a slight blow from the join between the cat and the mid section of the exhaust and the downpipe is quite badly corroded.

Now, as the hole is right on the join where the cat joins the pipe, can i just get this welded? If so what sort of cost am i looking at for this and is it likely to last? Also what sort of cost am i looking at for a downpipe?

Thanks in advance.

absolutely yes !! had the same problem with the golf , ended up sleeving the length of pipe before the first box that was three mot,s ago and its still good! usually you can find a suitable donor peice from any exhaust/tyre centres skip and take it to where the car is serviced ( im assuming its a freindly indie you go to ) and they usually have the gear to cut out the blow and cut a lentgh and tig/mig it up . and refit ( about £40- £50 or therabouts!

Ok thanks - i have a mobile mechanic service the car so no welding equipment. did you removed the cat then or just sleeve around the corrosion? Will pop into a garage by me sometime to see what they say...
