Xovers are too big - help

Featured Replies

I have been trying to fit my components in my Furby. Trouble is my crossovers are too big and I can't fit them behind the door or in the door pocket. The only place I can fit them is somewhere in the cabin. Trouble is that then I have to run some wire to the doors. On a furby the door connectors are a little tricky to negotiate so can I.......

Use the standard wiring +/- as my +/+ (one for tweeter, one from woofer) and then for the (-) for each speaker, earth to the metal near the door connector. Make sense? I know in the ICE golden rules, you're not supposed to do this but I can't think of any better ideas!

Has anyone had sucess on re-wiring the door connectors?

Other option is to drill my own holes near the door hinge and have a wire danging through some gromits!

Any ideas?

Well, Joel was forced to drill a couple of holes through my actual door cards (with my permission) and now my crossovers take up half my door pockets. Not a problem for me, and it looks quite funky having your audio a bit more on display. Here's a piccie to show what I mean.

Yeah - I was gonna do the same but they don't fit in there!!

They are HUGE :(

I've got the crossovers under the dash in my octy , and just ran a couple of sets of extra cables through the existing gromets into the doors.

Easier than bodging the existing wiring , especially if you plan to put it back standard to sell

Yeap - that's easy in the Octy - there are no door connectors. In the furby its a little tricky.

Please please do no do this...there is always a way....what i woudl do is put the X over behind the dash: INPUT goes in as normal..then i woudl use the existing wire going in to the door for the woofer and mount the tweeter on the top of the dash running the wire around the side of the dash so it is hidden when the door is closed... the tweeter will sit in area at the bottom corners of the windscreen...you might even be able to squeeze the wire away somehwere or bring it out of a small well position hole...

Simple..

What components? The crossovers might be huge but the circuit board inside them is probably much smaller ;)

I've seen them and although I can't remember what manufacturer / model, they sure ain't subtle :D :(

Subtle isn't a word I know anyway mate, you've seen my apillar pics :D

I hadn't but have now

:jawsmall: Crikey. How long did that take you? Nice feeling when the resin sets though :D

They don't take that long really. I've re-angled them all a bit better and they just need some sanding and filling before being covered :D

The resin only really smells if you buy cheap stuff. Get the decent stuff and the smell is almost gone in a few days.
