Fabia Subwoofer

Featured Replies

I see you can get a Fabia Subwoofer as an option...

All I ask it connecting it up, how hard is it and what is involved?

I thought I read somewhere that the cables are already in the boot ready for connection, is this true?

Many thanks for you help

AFAIK the cables are not there unless you specify it as a factory fit option, in which case you pay something like

Blimey! Thanks for your answer, very helpfull

Yes it is going into the standard headunit, btw you have pm about the cable

Cheers again!

Oh one more thing which do you think wuold be better:

The Skoda sub

Or the infinity sub

Or is there not a lot in it?

Cheers again

The infinity one IMO will be better, I have the Fabia Subwoofer and it works fine for me, however some may want more from the system. One benefit of the Skoda one is you can have it in the boot so it doesnt take up much space or even better under either the drivers or passenger front seats (dependant upon whether you have a 6 disc changer).

Under the seat aye? Now that would be handy

Does that infinity one fit under the drivers seat in the Furby vRS, or is it just the Fabia Subwoofer which you can fit there?

I've got the 6-cd-changer under the passenger front seat so that won't have the room.

The infinity one appears to be a tad wider, so if I were to put it under my front seat would that actually fit?

Well after reading this thread I couldnt resist and ordered an Infinity Basslink from caraudiodirect

Don't think either will fit under the seats...

The infinity defintely won't as it's a much bigger sub... the blaupunkt unit is very compact, only 8cm high because it's only a 5" sub (I believe) whereas the infinity is a 10" unit with a more powerful amp.

But on the skoda website...

http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/showroom/accessories/accessories.aspx?model=fabia&category=Audio&subcategory=Speakers

Even the skoda sub appears to be mounted on the side of the boot...

Can't see under-seat mounting being all that good an idea personally... very poor air circulation leading to high operating temperatures on the amp, and the seat would more than likely muffle a lot of the sound anyway...

Hmmm.... just noticed skoda are charging

I guess I'm mainly looking for something which will boost the bass sufficiently without going OTT - I need the boot space for my laptop

A false floor may be an idea but it at the same time will take more space up, so will have to see how I get on once I've got the car I suppose :D

That must be a pretty bulky laptop!

The Fabia boot's not that small. You cn quite happily mount an amp to the back of the rear seat, position a separate boxed sub in front of it and retain at least half of your boot space. I know, because I have! And it usually sounds better than an all in one unit.

False floors are usually made from thick MDF. This weighs a lot, maybe an extra 10kg depending on how complex it is, and as a result it won't do you any favours in terms of fuel economy. Plus it will reduce your boot space. I wouldn't bother unless you're doing a big install and want it to look super-tidy.

Laptop is small enough ;)

Seriously I found the Furby boot remarkably SMALL. It is not a lot bigger than the Rover 100's one.

The tricky thing is that I used the Furby vRS to move some big boxes (wedding pressies) from parents inlaw to our flat. It only just fitted (admittedly the boxes were a stupid shape). I ended up dropping the back seat forward to get it all in :D (would have been the same in the Rover)

I do shuttle around normal PCs or servers sometimes, thus it's important to keep as much boot space as possible.

Other reason: big suitcases ;) Mrs transportation for a long weekend could do with an estate I suppose

Are there subs that would fit under/through the parcel shelf (I know the amp would fit there) and not cause massive rattling noises? I am considering sound-proofing the car soon after getting it :)

What you could do if you wanted a decent sound and as much boot space as possible, is get a 4 channel amp (2 channels bridged for a sub), a decent set of component speakers for the front doors, and a free air sub mounted in the rear shelf. This would hardly encroach on your boot space at all, as the sub uses the whole boot as an enclosure. They don't sound as good as boxed subs, but they don't rob you of your boot space either. You'd need to fabricate a new shelf out of something sturdy like 18mm MDF to fit it though. That said, you could buy the MDF, spray glue and cloth to cover it for

PS with any subwoofer, sound deadening is a pretty good idea. So far I have only done the floor and sides of the boot with a combination of aqualseal covered by sound insulating felt, but I intend to use more of the felt to insulate the firewall against the diesel chatter, and the bodyshop warehouse sound deadening panels to insulate the front doors and minimise rattles and distortion from the component speakers in there.

Walkie, too late to cancel that and order it

Thanks for the info - checkin it out ;)

Apologies to those who asked but I have hunted for that lead and can't find it anywhere, so for now at least I'll have to retract my earlier comment about having one for sale! But if it does turn up I'll post again...

Anyone else have one of the pre-out connectors for the Symphony HU they don't need, as there's a couple of people here who could use one?
