Im having the cars paintwork polished with a 5yr protection product, but should i apply a glaze 1st or not? The paint protection does polish and leave a nice shine but the idea is that i wont need to keep polishing it.

Im getting it done for free as they do it at my dads work, it usualy costs about £500 through them. Ill find out what its called and where it can be bought from.

it sounds like the Lifeshine treatment or similar.

prep the car for them and then they'll have a great base to work on. Find out what the last treatment is that they put on the car. If its just a sealant then you can stick a couple of coats of some good wax, like collinite 476s.

Someone is making a killing if they are charging £500 for Guard X and I would be suprised if it does last 5 years as stated...........

Glazes can be used to hide swirls if not polishing by machine so pretty good if not using a machine.

Its usually about £300 for a car, £500 for inside/outside of a caravan. The warranty is for 3 years, as long as you use a 'conserver'. It works really well and means i havent got to polish the car again as long as i preserve the treatment. Also helps protect the paint from bird muck, fallout etc, when it rains/gets wet it just beads on the flat surfaces or runs off the sides. Im really happpy with how it turned out, and only time will tell if it works!

If you're prepping the car before this treatment, I certainly wouldn't wax it beforehand.

Polish, and then glaze if you wish - before getting the treatment applied.

I've had some good results using glaze as a stage during a detail, but as Baker says - sometimes it's not required. But if it is being applied, it goes in after the polishing stage(s), and before sealant.
