245/40 R17 on a 7.5J rim and on the mongrel?

:D

Having looked at the shocking prices of full slicks, it seems a good value way to get a pair of wide drag wheels is to put a pair of used 245/40 R17 tyres on to a spare pair of Audi TT 6 spokes I have.... Rim calc tool says there is an extra 1" of tread, and the speedo will be out by about 3.8%. I guess that 1 inch of tread will be spread half an inch out toward the strut, and half inch toward the arch. For going in a straight line this would be OK right? :D

Going to be very wide for a TT rim

Yeah - I'm not sure how far you can push the opposite of stretch.... Ideally want an 8.5J rim then.

mind on the 40 profile is a percentage of the width, so they'll be slightly chunky

I thought the tt's were 8j?!

Going to something that size is going to make a big difference in the weight of the wheels and unsprung mass, You sure you want to slow down the Mongrel?

I think grip off the line will outweigh potential increases in unsprung mass. The only other more suitable size I can find is 235/35 R17, but they are not common at all sadly. :(

If your talking about using these wheels for Drag racing only, you could just buy some rims for the front axle only and be careful when steering, no sharp lock. Have you looked at 15/16" rims and tyre options?

Tried looking for 17" (needed for Brembo clearance) but nothing really around from what I can tell.

Prob more than you wanted to spend?

Oh yes :D

For that price I would simply run on the TT wheels for the summer and stick the wheels on a couple of my Superleggeras, which are 8J wide too.
