Why so thirsty? 22.7MPG..... on a run!

Featured Replies

This thing is almost as juicy as my previous 406 V6 coupe, when I thrashed it!!

The exhaust developed a hole in the backbox, so we had a new one fitted and the mechanic thought the reason behind the excessive fuel consumption was due the exhaust blowing but it is still no better.

The figure of 22.7 is based on a 40mile trip mostly duel carriageway and A roads, now I know my OH has a lead foot at times, but 22.7?!

Does anyone have any idea why it is using so much fuel? also it has started ever so slightly chugging at idle when it is gear?

PLEASE HELP

Hi I'm no expert but thats very bad , check the lamab sensor.

Is there any other syptons eg high tick over, poor acllation, jurking at cirtain speeds,

does it get up to temp on the gauge? could be a thermostat broken or temp sender sending false signals

another vote for a dodgy temp sensor from me too, often the guage will read fine but the signal to the ecu is way off

Lambda or temp sensor.

when i first got my 1.6.. i was frustrated cos no matter how hard i tried i could not get more than 38mpg and when thrashing only 32mpg

after 3months i read a thread on here bout temp sensors..

Tom would recommend a offical Skoda or Jorily part if i remember the other thread correctly.

I purchased one made my triplan online for £3.22 and wow what a difference

can average 43mpg on my commutes and thrashing rarely produces less than 35mpg

i saved in money the £3.22 outlay in a matter of days

just change it... why not :-)

if it doesn't help, let us know as there is one or two other things it could be

Strangely the fan keeps kicking in too, could be driveing 10 miles down the road then the fan will come on...

Which temp sensors do you think it is? I did have one changed not long ago

it gets up to operating temp quickly, just above half way then the fan will kick in.

We are selling the car so I want to fix this before hand

ps thanks for the replys guys

The temperature sensor we're talking about is the one on the block, not the fan thermo-switch on the radiator.

the coolant temp sensor??
