What exactly is the problem with the rack???

As said, perfect time for a quick rack, just had mine done. Very happy with it!

Best of luck with sorting this out!

Whats a quick rack?

And what tbe hells happend to yours ollie

Quick rack is the one off the 225 TT and Golf R32. 2.5 turns lock to lock instead of 3.2

I've been after one for a while.

Whats a quick rack?

And what tbe hells happend to yours ollie

Its whats fitted to the R32, Cupra R's etc makes it 2.5 turns instead of 3 lock to lock if memory serves. Oh and the picture is when I my head went ka boom. Now running BAM head and pistons  but yes it was my fault not the cars :wall:

Rob you snipered me!

Are they more money than the octy ones ?

It happend just as we moved home which really sucks :'(

I'll mention these other racks to him n the morning if he hasnt started it ???

Any ideas what would make it die? Something in it you can rattle n shake and clonk with your hands?

They did both tell me when i asked them but im crap lol

Its sat down with simon and chris at performance driven in taunton at the mo  a expensive lil holiday for the octy

Is it definitely the rack?

Not the UJ on the end of the column or an inboard track rod end?

The UJ only comes with the column, so I think that is dearer than the rack, but if it is that, then changing the rack won't fix it.

Track rod ends should be cheaper to fix.

and with tiny miles! what's the cost of a new rack fitted?

Bloody £750 :'(

They had a good look over it, so dissapointed with my car :'(

The guys know me well and do all the stuff to it, and lots of favors so i fully trust them, with no miles im so not amused, It really is ****e luck... I wondered if it couldve been anything to do with harf driving and the weight of the 20s ???

I was told in detail what was broke but i forgot :wonder: due to my panic

Its something on one side of it which is loose and rattleing and knocking, i will ask again so can let you know lol i'll see i can get them to write it down :giggle:

I took it down to get that empty metal klunk looked at, as it got really bad and was klunking and rattling like fudge :dull:

Ungrateful car :S i get him bbs's and he now lives in a garage at night and this is my thanks

You have obviously not been paying him enough attention ;) It is a real pain and going to the brink myself it dose make you question how far you go but these things happen and its still a great car.

Yeah im sure i'll get my love back ?????

Maybe, lol the wheels r fine so its ok

Im going to mention the r32 rack but it may have been started yesterday, aslong as its fixed and steers i supose thats a good sign :giggle:

I dont even have a guess on what costs are there for a dead head mate, gutted for you

Ive just realised the probkem ...... Its obviously a paddy because ive been looking at R32s :smirk:

That will teach me to fool around lol

We have all been there mate ;) It cost me about £1800 to sort out but that's only because I wanted to retain the original block. That was 8000 miles ago now and its been excellent since then.

If you could get the quick rack that would be great but i think there's a few other bits that need changing to make it fit. Suppose you have to ask yourself where does it end and what you want out of it. For me if the cost was the same for performance parts or an upgrade then its a no brainer but if its double the cost then forget it.

Thats the 1 :giggle:

lol if the turbo ever pops then thats the excuse im waiting for

£1800 and i think its a dark lane and its gallon of petrol and lighter time ;)

Ive had a knock on mine for a while now, which was ****ing me off as ive had all new coilovers, arb bushes, drop links, suspension arms! the whole front end is new!!

So i was going to go for the inner and out track rods but after looking at the car i cant find any play anywhere, not even in the steering! so ill be buggered if i know what it is, but it deffo come through the steering? somestime floor!!

Any ideas? I bet its the rack, was thinking it to be honest but thought it would last longer!!

It was a kind of hollow metal klunk kind of rattle, it staryed on dips and then it was any bump ridge stone it seemed :'(

I am so freaking unamused  It even crossed my mind to sell the backstabbing gitbag :dull:

Ok, new rack on

Still knocking :giggle:

New rack coming off

Rattle found  its the front strut, my 5 year old kw has gave up the ghost

The little knock in steering rack is just a bit of wear, and been check now f.o.c so going back on with a pair of gutted mechanics :smirk:

They thought they had the octy beat ;)

This was a mistake :D

My £750 bill will now be halved and thats if have 2 new front kw coilies

They are being sent to kw cos may just be inserts which are £80 a side iirc

Bad side is the octy is having a extended holiday in taunton as kw need 5 working days and lots of bank hols in the way

Good news there mate, better make it up to the old girl!
