Fabia vRS brakes

Featured Replies

Hi, i'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I had my car re-mapped the other day(1.8t 4x4 Octy estate) but on the way home i managed to completely cook the brakes :o went very spongey( could put my foot to the floor and hardly feel the brakes)

all was fine after they cooled down again.

so i'm looking to upgrade my brakes, does anyone know if the front brakes from a Fabia vRS 2005 will fit on my Octavia 2001?

will they be any better than mine?

Thanks in advance

Richard

The Fabia vRS has 288mm as standard ,same as non-vRS 1.8T Octavia's I believe. Your best option would be a 312mm upgrade from the Octavia vRS

Or some nice shiny red Seat Leon Cupra R Brembos :D

312MM discs from the VRS/TT and the carriers!

Or to cut out the middle man Porsche 986 front calipers and 312mm discs either way you are going to have to buy the carries for both and the discs, it just depends on you budget and wethare you want to shell out £250 for the Porsche calipers on top!?

You're cheapest option is the vRS/TT/Golf GTi 312 disc and carrier option ( uses the same single-piston caliper ~ TBH you can probably pickup the complete caliper and carrier cheaper and more easily than the carriers on their own).

If you've already cooked your front brakes, I'd strongly recommend upgrading your rear brakes too. The Octy 4x4 single rear disc is pony. Mine where running > 100degrees hotter than the fronts. vRS/Golf GTI 256mm vented, caliper and carrier is the cheapest route.

The Seat Leon Cupra R Brembos/Brembo GT are the are the best off-the-shelf option, but will set you back big $

Ferodo DS2500 pads are generally held in high-regard

If you've had a remap on a 4x4, and are intending to drive in a spirited manner, I'd suggest uprating the front and rear Anti-Roll Bars ASAP, and getting some descent springs/shocks or coilovers.

ps

Welcome to the forum

Thanks for all the info on the brakes, was only asking about the fabia ones as there was a full set on ebay (carriers, calipers, pads and discs) ended today, last time i checked had no bids at 99p!

Don't worry I have big plans for my 4x4, loads of stuff to do, might take a while though as family comes first(apparently :giggle: )

If you got big plans then just get some good pads and discs and fluid for now and save/ keep eyes open for the LCR brembos I got mine for 420 delivered and they were the first I have ever seen on ebay/ for sale.

Don't bother wastin your money on the 312 mate if you oin for lots of power. Jus make do. Unless you can pick up the 312 for a good price.

I don't know how bad the 4x4 ones are tho but I used to think the 312 on my vRS were all that was needed till I got these brembos on lol. Now that's stopping power!

Off topic,

Rob have you got urs done correctly now? If so they are good arnt they lol

I've just picked the car up - he bled the brakes again twice - so that's four goes to get it right.

Wow those brakes have some bite - this will take a little time to get used to I think :)

Didn't get the chance to do a proper test as the dog was in the back and I didn't want her flying over my head :)

lol, yea they do have really good initial bite mate and beleive me they keep biting all the time till the car stops.

unlike the std brakes that bite well then seem to fade out a slight bit before they finally stop you lol.

What ET are your rims? how much space is there between spokes and calliper? My 18" et35 TD PR1.2 only had 1mm if that and one side was even that close it took the nice green paint I put on them off lol. I am using 5mm spacers with the spiders atm Getting some 3mm and 5mm hubcentrics today I hope as the wobble is annoying.

Gonna put the 5mm on front and 3mm on rear with the spiders then just use the 3mm on the fronts with the TDs

lol

Thems the brakes you want Rich lol

Mine are 18"x8 ET35 but there's loads of clearance - about a cm I reckon. Luckily I seem to have bought the right wheels!

Your lucky, mine are same but no space lol.

On another note can a warped disc cause wheel wobble while driving at certain speeds?
