Auto Express 20th April

Featured Replies

Heads up. This weeks Auto Express has a group test of a Hybrid Honda Jazz, petrol Seat Ibiza and diesel Skoda Fabia, might be worth a read. I've not seen it in print myself, just had a gander at the Auto Express website to see what was in this weeks mag.

Will have a scan in WH Smiths ;)

Didn't know Honda were bringing out a Hybrid Jazz. Are they testing it against a Greenline? Wonder which one will turn out more economical :)

Let's home it's a good review eh

Its not the best. Its a review of the greenline II and it comes 2nd out of the three they test. Its main downfall.seems to be the design and interior of the car and the engine not having enough ummph in comparsion to the jazz and ibiza they tested

Well at least it wasn't the worst of the 3

But i've sat in an ibiza - i felt like i was going to break something...

I thought it was quite a fair test, although I'd liked to have seen them use an estate.

The cheapo plastic wheel was criticised. I agree with that, it's awful.

Can't work out why Skoda gave them a hatch, which can come with the nice leather controls, but gave them one with the horrible plastic wheel and fitted a sat-nav and basic air-con? :wonder:

The hard suspension was also mentioned, and yet I find mine very compliant. Maybe because they used the hatch and I've got the estate with a spare wheel in?

As for the rear spoiler comments. Well, it's not exatly subtle is it?

Overall it pretty much summed the car up. Very economical, but some compromises for the economy.

Think they were wrong on saying it had taller gears thouhg. Pretty sure the GL1 had this, but the GL2 has regular 5 speed box ratios like the 1.6 diesel.

They should have factored in the VAT free deal that is UK wide at all dealers too.

It came 2nd at full list price, but I wonder where it'd have come if it was over 2k cheaper?

Problem is the Fabia is quite old tech now, in many respect the new Ibiza is the better more modern car (chassis wise anyway). Agree they definitely are not as well put together though, sitting in a Fabia after an Ibiza is like going from Papier Mache to Granite!

Have to agree why not use the estate? For me the Greenline then becomes no1 just because of the extra space.

Although the Ibiza is a newer car on a newer platform I don't think there is a great deal of difference between the old and new platforms?

Anyhow, good to see the Beeza win as it has a Skoda engine under the bonnet and that was the bit it was mainly praised for

The "greentec" package will be available on petrol engined Fabias soon too, although not sure whether that applies to the UK.

Interesting that the hybrid Jazz was actually the worst of the three on fuel consumption!
